Some sculptures are created directly by finding or carving; others are assembled, built together and fired, welded, molded, or cast. Sculptures are often painted. (one of my favorite artists, Shinkichi Tajiri, did so-called junk art in the fifties but unfortunately it's hard to find info on, but if you're really interested you should give it a try!)
