Can painters blue tape block Epoxy floor coating from getting through?
Q. I am planning on painting my garage floor with a two-step epoxy garage paint/coating, thats the one with the decorative chips. However, as if I was using regular paint, I want to tape off and block areas that I do not want painted. Will regular painters blue tape repel the Epoxy paint/coating just like it would regular paint.? I know that the Epoxy paint/coating is thicker and stronger than regular paint and wondering if it will actually leak through the painters tape. Thanks for the advice!

A. It will not leak through the tape, however..epoxy is a very hard product when cured..You may have trouble getting the tape off if you allow the epoxy to dry on it..just make sure as you paint an area with the tape on it..to remove that section of tape right after you paint it and do not allow it to dry...

Can any painters out there give me some tips on repainting kitchen cabinets?
Q. My cabinets are painted semi gloss white. The dog has chewed on some of the corners and the original paint is wearing thin in some places. I want to paint cabinets with a high gloss white. Do I need to sand them before painting or just prime them? I know to sand the dog chewed areas but I was unsure if I needed to prime the entire cabinets since they are already painted. Any tips any painters could give me would be sooo appreciated! I want to start this project next week! Thanks!

A. Before you paint you must sand first, before you prime and paint. Use a 220 grit to scuff the cabinet door. Use a tack rag to remove and dust. Prime it sand lightly and put your final coat of paint on.

A. I have never known a painter to go by sqft. For an example in malibu i have paid $2300 for a painter to scrape, sand, and provide paint and paint a 2300 sqft ranch style house including 2 wood garage doors. However in Dallas i last paid $1275 for a painter to paint (very minimal scraping and sanding, he provided paint) a small 1300 sq ft house and a very large 3500 sqft barn. Both houses were brick ranch only needing trim painted, the barn needed paint all the way around except the roof.

A. Richard has some good tips. PLUS, use the blue tape not the green tape. let the paint cure for 30 days (if you can) before applying the tape to it. If you are painting the walls and then taping the walls to paint the trim. You will need to a) wait as long as you can before applying the tape or b) don't keep the tape on the walls for days. I always paint my trim first getting some paint on the walls and then when it is time (trim paint is dry) I cut the walls with a brush and thus cut down the edge of the door without using tape. I find it easier than painting the walls first and the trim second. I think most painters do it that way. But who am ???

A. Try and look for a Pantone color book. Or try for a color fan. Each manufacturer will have their own. These can be expensive! My preference is the Pantone set, as the colors already match print colors, and ALL paint stores can match them easily. Good Luck!

A. No. 880 Concrete Bonding Primer a high-performance, ready-to-use, water-based pre-treatment for porous concrete, designed specifically to promote optimum adhesion. This epoxy pre-treatment, when properly applied, provides a sound surface with excellent resistance to water, alkali and efflorescence. It improves the adhesion of paints and stains by binding together loose particles. The primer will appear slightly milky in the container; however, it will dry to a clear, natural look. This specially formulated bonding primer can be used to improve bonding whenever a masonry type coating, such as a behr porch & floor paint, behr solid color concrete stain, behr semi-Transparent concrete stain or BEHR 1-Part epoxy acrylic concrete &… [cont.]

A. There are a LOT of greats out there - depending on which artist you ask you will probably get completely different answers based on who they are acquainted with and what their background is. A nice long list of names is available through the New York agency Portraits, Inc. and they represent truly superior talents, so you might check out their web site. www.portraitsinc.com You may also contact a few well-known galleries that can connect you with good prospects, including the Forum Gallery and Hirschl & Adler, both in New York. You can get portraits in any medium - some artists have favorites or specialties. At this level, be prepared to throw down some serious bank, but it is really worth it.

What is your opinion on females being house painters?
Q. Do you think its right for females to be house painters or just let the guys do it?
Asked by NFI - Sun Sep 23 08:52:08 2007 - - 17 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I think women generally would make better house painters than men. They're more meticulous and careful in their work. I know when I paint inside I see much more flaws in my boyfriend's and son's work than mine. Flaws they never notice until I point them out. I saw some Road Rules show on MTV where the contestants had to hold their arms up in the air. Last one with their arms still up was the winner. The guys were dropping like flies and the women were staring at the men, amused. Since you have your arms up in the air a lot while painting, a women's physiology is better mated with house painting. Now, trimming the hedges I leave to my man. I can't hold that heavy power tool over my head for long.

A. Well from what you've already posted you like a more expressive than "realistic" style of artist. You can look at Cezanne, Monet, Klimpt, Degas, maybe even Pissarro. More modern painters you might like are Francis Bacon and also Marshall Arisman. Enjoy :-). There are so many great painters out there.
