Q. Ok, so what exactly is the difference between having say "2 years post-graduate study" and a Masters degree? Is there a difference in the terms masters or graduate? I'm kind of confused. I'm looking at a number of jobs that require one "one year of graduate courses at minimum" and I am just wanting to make sure that that means the same thing as "one year of masters level coursework"? Asked by Rain - Tue Oct 13 15:41:53 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. You don't automatically get a masters degree after taking two years worth of graduate coursework. First, you need to be enrolled in the masters program as a degree-seeking student to get a degree - you can take graduate coursework without being enrolled. Next, you need to fulfill the requirements for the degree, which include some specific courses, some elective courses, and may also include a masters thesis and/or passing a qualifying exam before getting the degree. But yes, one year of graduate courses is one year of masters or PhD-level coursework that you do not have to be enrolled a student to take. Answered by eri - Tue Oct 13 15:47:37 2009 How can you get a masters degree different from your college major? Q. How do people who studied, for example, computer science, get a Masters in something like Economy? Do they need to take some extra courses or how do they do that? Asked by laser_vamp - Fri Jan 25 11:40:29 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Lots of people do graduate work in a field other than their major. For example, I have a BS in Mathematics, but have taken graduate classes in Mathematics, Statistics, Philosophy, Economics, Finance and general business. I have been admitted to PhD programs in Mathematics and Philosophy (which I did not complete), have an MBA from Duke and a PhD in Finance from Berkeley. Only one of the other PhD students in Finance at Berkeley had an undergraduate degree in Finance. For most disciplines, you need to have some coursework to get into a graduate program. For example, for an MS in Economics it would be a good idea to have a few undergraduate economics classes and lots of math classes. There are some exceptions. To do graduate work in… [cont.] Answered by Ranto - Fri Jan 25 11:49:24 2008 Will a bachelors in nanotechnology and masters in chemical engineering allow me to work as a chemical engineer?
Q. Ive done 2 years of a 4 year nanotechnology course. If I do a masters in chemical engineering which is 1.5 years long, will I be able to work as a chemical engineer afterwards? Or should i just change my course to chemical engineering now and almost start from scratch? Asked by Rob - Sun Feb 15 08:27:06 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Of course you must finish first the Chemical Engineering degree in order to be qualified to work as a Chemical Engineer. Only a plus factor for you is your nanotechnology studies, despite you have not yet completed the course. Please note that only you can be called Engineer and work as a Chemical Engineer if you have that degree, or else you will only be called laboratory technician if without finishing an engineering degree. Proceeding to Masters Degree after a Bachelors Degree will be a very good choice to ensure your place to land a better job. Good luck.
