Fine art describes an art form developed primarily for aesthetics and/or concept rather than practical application. Art is often a synonym for fine art, as employed in the term "art gallery". Historically, the fine arts were limited to painting, sculpture, architecture and engraving. Today, the fine arts commonly include visual and performing art forms, such as painting, sculpture, installation, Calligraphy, music, dance, theatre, architecture, photography and printmaking. However, in some institutes of learning or in museums fine art, and frequently the term fine arts (pl.) as well, are associated exclusively with the visual art forms. The term is today usually avoided by academic art historians, and is much less used in any context in the UK than North America, especially in the singular form. From Wikipedia under the

Q. to be clear, i don't want a point and shoot for fine art photography. i am a fine art film photographer looking for a good digital camera to take pictures of my new puppies, things i'm selling on ebay, and general street and travel photography. I'd like something with a nice lens that can take a digital point and shoot shot that may compare to a leica i need something in the $150 range. Be sure to find one with a RAW mode for best acuity as Panasonic is known to be very heavy handed when it comes to noise suppression algorithms for jpegs. You might check out the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8. It has RAW and a Leica lens. They seem to trade in the $125 to $150 range at eBay. Every camera I own was bought used. It's a great way to save money. Also, keep in mind that Kodak sells some cameras with a Schneider lens that is very sharp. Answered by Mere Mortal - Wed Apr 29 20:17:50 2009 HOW DO I GET STARTED AS A FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHER?

Asked by Jennifer - Thu Sep 17 07:01:31 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Define "fine art" and also what do you actually want to do. As in do you want to sell your work or just take photos. "Fine art" photography (depending on your definition) has a very limited market and only the very best make any money in it. A lot of photographers will do this sort of thing as a side line to their normal everyday work but it does depend on what you consider to be fine art and where you want to go with it. To start then just take the shots, if you want to be published, exhibited or make sales then you have to approach galleries and publishers of this sort of work and, at the risk of repeating myself, who you approach depends on your definition of the subject.
