David Ritz Finkelstein (born July 19, 1929, New York City) is currently an emeritus professor of physics at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Finkelstein obtained his Ph.D. in physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1953. Later, from 1964 to 1976, he was professor of physics at Yeshiva University.

Much of Finkelstein's work concentrates on the relation between logic and physics, and quantum analogues of classical mathematical structures. In 1963 he proposed that anomalies of quantum mechanical measurement originate in anomalies of the logic that governs quantum mechanical systems. He proposed that dynamic systems are quantized by a fundamental space-time quantum dubbed a "chronon." This view was carried further by Hilary Putnam who argued that quantum logic was the correct logic that describes propositional reasoning generally. In a different direction, he has investigated ball lightning.

Finkelstein has also made contributions to general relativity. His mathematical work helped John Archibald Wheeler and other physicists accept the theoretical possibility of a black hole.

Have you heard of this book? Can you recommend any others of the genre?
Q. It's called "The Bible Unearthed" by Finkelstein and Silberman. It's all about how the Bible has this beautiful mythology, but that archeology has pretty much disproved nearly all of it as far as actual "truthfulness" goes. (It tells how there is a plethora of evidence to the contrary as far as the stories of Abraham, Moses, the Exodus, the Twelve Kingdoms, David and Soloman, etc.) It's a really good book and I'm looking for more of the same, possibly with a New Testament archeological emphasis. Can anyone recommend a similar book? cnm, you clearly have not read my question. You also seem to be saying that Spiderman is real because the comics are based in New York, which really existed. vinslave, it's a good start - thx. I'm still… [cont.]

Does archaeology prove the Bible?
Q. I've seen this claim several times today. While it's true that some aspects of the Bible have been proven to be accurate by archaeology, it's also true other aspects have been proven false. Finkelstein and Silberman document the archaeological evidence that proves that Israel was never more than a vassel state, and that Soloman and David were nothing more than chieftans. Why would people find it surprising that books that are genuinely old might occasionally record accurate history? How does getting mundain facts occasionally right prove the outrageous parts? Does the fact that Mecca exists and the Qu'ran talks about it somehow prove that Muhammed really preached to the Jin? Maybe I didn't make the question clear. Do accurate mundane… [cont.]

A. I think people can't or simple do not want to understand your question. I've used the example of Minos. There are archaeological findings as well as historical records that indicates his existence, the historical records come from different geographical parts, not only from Crete (Herodotus for example). Even though we see Crete exists, that there are historical records of Minos and archaeological finding of the Minoan civilization, how does such findings validate the records that say that Minos was the son of a god (Zeus in the case), that Poseidon answered his prayers and that his wife (Pasiphae) had a monster as a child (the minotaur) after having sex with a bull. I'm not a bit surprised that christians would say all this is a "myth",… [cont.]

What do you think about this comment from the Libertarian Party about Damian Green's arrest?
Q. Following the press release by David Normington who admits it was he who set off the Police investigation into leaks at the Home Office, we now have some more timings to provide a little more detail. We already know that Boris Johnson was informed prior to the arrest of Green, as was David Cameron. David Normington states that he was informed at 1.45, a full 15 minutes before the arrest took place. So the question is, Jacqui Smith and Gordon Brown, even if they did not order the arrest, or give permission for it, did they know prior to the arrest taking place? If they knew, why did they not stop it? As it was the Sergeant at Arms, who reports to the Speaker, gave his permission for Damian Green's House of Commons office to be searched,… [cont.]

A. So you've noticed the gradual move to a totalitarian state, the Labour party always admired the Soviet Union and its methods (its leaders always went to Moscow for orders when they were elected) and of course the Brussels dictators are also in on this move. I would think that Mugabe must be laughing at us as we have a government that espouses democracy and denounces Mugabe yet carries on just as he would. I would expect that Brown will have laws in place making a General Election in 2010 unnecessary by handing all power to Brussels before that and then heading a Brussels appointed government in England.
