From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Fine art describes an art form developed primarily for aesthetics and/or concept rather than utility. Today, the fine arts commonly include visual and performing art forms, such as painting, sculpture, music, dance, theatre, architecture, photography and printmaking. However, in some institutes of learning or in museums fine art, and frequently the term fine arts (pl.) as well, are associated exclusively with the visual art forms. Art is often a synonym for fine art in this sense, as employed in the term "art gallery". Historically, the fine arts were limited to painting, sculpture, architecture and engraving. Q. and also, what is the purpose of fine art? Asked by Emoticon - Tue Feb 10 19:47:12 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. the biggest difference is that, contrary to commercial art, fine art s main porpoise isn't economical. Fine art is very much like all art in general- intended to sometimes please the eye, conduct a message, register a specific time, indulge and provoke the audience. Commercial art is a a failry new term, ''art-vertisment'' is a way to combine art with a commercial porpoise- such as selling or showcasing a business. you could say you pamper yourself with fine art and you bring home the bacon with commercial art! I am doing my a levels at the moment, i am doing art, product design and biology, i am only in my first year about 3 months in (its not too late to change to college or change courses if need be)... but my heart lies in going to university for the fine art, how am i too do this? What grades should i be aiming for to go to a university in england? please help :) thanks. Asked by Elouise - Thu Oct 8 09:39:41 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Certainly aim for an A in Art, but to be honest so long as the other A-levels are decent (A - C grade) you should be ok. Your portfolio is more important than your grades with almost any practical art based subject at uni, be it fine art or even design. They want to see that you're very creative and have potential. Also if you chose an honours degree, you have to write a dissertation, so a good GCSE English grade is also quite important. You have plenty of time, I suggest researching uni's offering Fine Art (your tutor should be able to help with that), and see what their individual selection criteria are. Good luck. Answered by Han - Thu Oct 8 09:52:05 2009 What schools (public universities) have great Fine Art programs?
Q. When I reach college, I plan to major as a Fine Arts Major. I have a natural knack for art, and I want to perfect it. And I would also like to know what exact things are needed in a portfolio, and you are going to use the words "original work" I would like to know what it means. And do they have to be made within a certain period, and may they be made in an art class. Just asking. Asked by Gemma - Wed Feb 11 23:08:24 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. If you want a Public University, you should look for one in your State. (In State tuition is significantly lower for Public colleges) Short of knowing which State you're in, it's hard to make a suggestion. As you're interested in Art, I think the best thing you can do is search college websites, under their Art Department will be a list of faculty. Copy and Paste the name into a Yahoo search (i.e. Yahoo Images) and look at some of the work they do. If you find a professor whose work you're really impressed by, that's where you should be. There's nothing worse than studying 4 years under a professor whose style doesn't fit your own. (Yes there will always be some professors who this is the case, but you want one in a department who you can… [cont.] Answered by Prospero Reincarnate - Thu Feb 12 22:04:23 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "fine art"
